A gas carburizing furnace is a type of industrial furnace used in heat treatment processes to increase the carbon content on the surface of low-carbon steel components. This process, known as carburizing, enhances surface hardness and wear resistance while maintaining a tough and ductile core.

 

  • 1. Types of Gas Carburizing Furnaces

    Gas carburizing furnaces come in different designs based on production needs:

    A. Batch-Type Furnaces

    • Used for small to medium production runs.

    • Examples:

      • Sealed Quench Furnaces – Carburizing and quenching happen in the same chamber.

      • Pit Furnaces – Vertical loading, good for long parts (e.g., shafts).

      • Bell Furnaces – Used for large batches with a removable cover.

    B. Continuous Furnaces

    • Used for high-volume production (e.g., automotive parts).

    • Examples:

      • Mesh Belt Furnaces – Parts move on a conveyor through heating, carburizing, and quenching zones.

      • Rotary Hearth Furnaces – Circular design for uniform treatment.

      • Push-Type Furnaces – Parts are pushed through different zones.
