gas carburizing furnace is a type of industrial furnace used in heat treatment processes to increase the carbon content on the surface of low-carbon steel components. This process, known as carburizing, enhances surface hardness and wear resistance while maintaining a tough and ductile core.

    • How a Gas Carburizing Furnace Works:

      1. Heating – The steel parts are heated to a high temperature (typically 850–950°C or 1560–1740°F) in a controlled atmosphere.

      2. Carburizing Gas Introduction – A carbon-rich gas (such as natural gas, propane, or endothermic gas) is introduced into the furnace. This gas decomposes at high temperatures, releasing carbon atoms that diffuse into the steel surface.

      3. Diffusion – Carbon penetrates the steel surface, forming a high-carbon layer (case depth). The depth depends on time, temperature, and gas composition.

      4. Quenching – After carburizing, the parts are rapidly cooled (quenched in oil, water, or polymer) to harden the surface.

      5. Tempering (Optional) – To reduce brittleness, the parts may be tempered at a lower temperature.
